Dr. Paul Leong is a respiratory physician consultant based at Monash Lung, Sleep, Allergy & Immunology at Monash Health. Paul maintains a highly active portfolio of clinical and research responsibilities involving the provision of support for various emerging clinicians, scientists and advanced trainee medical practitioners.
Paul completed his PhD in 2021 which investigated the clinical relevance and utility of comprehensive novel imaging techniques applied during acute exacerbations of COPD to identify clinically relevant cardiovascular comorbidities. He is a postdoctoral fellow of the Centre of Research Excellence in Treatable Traits in Newcastle, Australia and has strong clinical interests in the ways to improve the clinical management of people affected by chronic lung disease through personalised care. This includes the management of upper airway comorbidities such as vocal cord dysfunction as well as the impact of expiratory dynamic (or central) airways collapse in such individuals.
Despite Paul’s status as an early career researcher, he has 13 publications, has supervised many student projects including 1 PhD student and has been successful in several grant opportunities at a local and national level.
